white houses

perhaps winter is getting to me, but as i look outside at the 13 inches of fresh snow piling up, i cant help but think how perfect it looks with everything evenly coated with an indentical shade of clean white. the sky, the trees, the grass, the cars, the buildings have all evolved into a magical winter-wonderland. unfortunately, as a seasoned northerner i am aware that this will only last for the rest of the day at best and the winter whites will soon become the winter blues. once the snow fall slows, the plow trucks will come along, scraping away the pure white to reveal the dead earth. snow banks on the side of the road will accumulate dirt as pollution overcomes nature. the snow will melt and freeze again, inconveniencing drivers everywhere, and we will all curse mother nature for the relentless cold that lasts until about april. but for now, i can enjoy the dreamy landscape that surrounds me (as long as I stay inside)

luckily an imitation of this bright, cleansed sensation can last throughout the year. i have always been drawn to all white rooms for the same reason i find beauty in snowfall. it always appears so elegant and neat, even if the room is not extremely tidy. somehow it does not feel sterile, but rather cozy and inviting.   i am always amazed at how whites and light colors open up an area and give us a fresh breath. these photos have been accumulating on my computer for quite some time now, and i felt the need to share these calming atmospheres now that the holidays are over and a murmer of winter resentment is beginning to grow

just looking makes me feel more peaceful!
