sleepless

ive been posting so much recently trying to procrastinate for exams. studying ancient philosophy and political theorems can just get so dry and leave me thirsty for inspiration. after a week of pulling my hair out with school work and trying to get everything ready for christmas, i am finally going home tomorrow. just two more finals and a late night of packing and im back to cornfields for a month

creatures of habit

there are 1,000 people in my dorm, 20,000 undergrads at my school, and 8,000,000 people in this city. this is not a place where you can expect to bump into someone. yet, there are some familiar faces that have the same personal schedule as me. apparently we get up at the same time, get hungry at the same time, have class at the same time...no matter where i study in the library, what time i get my starbucks, or where i eat lunch, i seem to see some of the the same people every day.
i feel like this means we are friends, even though we will probably never speak

most wonderful time of the year

finally christmas time in new york! despite the 60 degree weather, i started off the season with a christmas a capella concert (actually amazing), soon to be followed by the nutcracker, ice skating, and increasing my daily intake of peppermint hot chocolate. every night there are more lights and decorations to see--will have to take a trip up to midtown soon to truly experience the magic. hopefully smuggling a small christmas tree into the building will be easier than a kitten. expect more holiday inspired posts. so ready for jollly times!

melancholic

i felt the need to take a break from my art history paper on ancient chinese culture to look at Dazed's featured photographer, yulia gorodinski. the ex-military secretary runs a one-man show, taking only self portraits and processing and editing her photographs herself. she describes her art simply as "melancholic"

and now back to the six dynasties....

i can't walk in a vacuum

i am being spoon fed vanilla bean ice cream mhmmm

I've been eating with a good friend who said
"A Genie made me out of the earth's skin"
But in spite of her she is my birth kin
She spits me out in her surly blood rivers
All the people life lurking in dominions of a hot Turk dish
If the elephants be reaching for our purses
Then meet me after the world with the shivers
